New photos from the set of Homeland being filmed in Cape Town

Cape Town - The cast of Homeland transformed the streets of Cape Town into Islamabad, Pakistan over the weekend.

The TV show, which is currently filming its fourth season in the Mother City, occupied a few blocks of the CBD as they filmed scenes for the new season.

Channel24 received photos from a reader who spotted the filming taking place outside the popular Eastern Food Bazaar in Darling Street.

In one of the scenes Claire Danes’ character, CIA agent Carrie Mathison, was seen in the back of a taxi trying to drive through a busy street while street kids were banging on the car’s window.

The set was full of extras and a smoke machine was used to create a cloudy atmosphere while traditional Pakistani busses, cars and rickshaws were seen driving around.

The filming of Homeland, which got off to a rocky start due to South Africa’s new visa laws, has been shrouded with secrecy. The show is also in media lockdown with no media requests being allowed.

Channel24 also learned that Hollywood star, Sean Penn, arrived in Cape Town on Saturday. The Oscar winner is set to film his latest movie in the city with his new love, Charlize Theron, by his side.
