Nick Jonas opens up about living with diabetes

Los Angeles - Nick Jonas admits his diabetes can be hard to live with.

The Chains hitmaker, who is known for his chiselled physique, admits he has to be very careful about his diet because he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 10 years ago.

He said: "I live a pretty low-carb life. I wish I was eating pancakes all the time. That would be so much fun! When I do, it's whole wheat or buckwheat."

The 23-year-old star was terrified when he was first diagnosed with the blood sugar disease.

He told Us Weekly: "It was scary. The initial step was to learn as much as possible ... about carbohydrates and sugar intake, and how that would affect my levels.

"I've had a couple of diabetic episodes. Most recently, I was walking home and out of nowhere I felt my sugar drop. I was in an elevator, luckily with a friend, when I started to pass out. I got to my room and got some juice and snacks to get my sugar up. It could have been very scary."

But the Jealous hitmaker, who has recently been linked to 36-year-old actress Kate Hudson, refuses to let the disease affect his entire life.

He said: "I might have to take extra precautions, like checking my blood sugar, but I don't let diabetes hold me back."
