Nicole Kidman likes to have slithering venomous guests at her parties

Los Angles - Nicole Kidman often has snakes at her parties.

The Paddington actress is a big fan of touching the slippery serpents so much so she enjoys hosting events and inviting plenty of the legless creatures along, but she decided against having snakes at her

Halloween party last year for fear her kids Sunday, six, and four-year-old Faith, would be too scared.

Nicole - who is married to Keith Urban - said: "I had a party once where I was gonna invite ... well I've had snakes at parties before, but I had a Halloween party this year and we had to cancel the snake charmer because the kids would be too scared."

"I've also had a party where I've had lots of different wild animals and yeah, I love animals!"

The 47-year-old actress, who was born in the US but grew up in Australia, believes she is such a fan of wild animals because of her childhood Down Under, where she used to have a pet funnel-web spider - which can cause death in humans - living in her family swimming pool during her younger years.

Speaking on talk show Conan, she added: "We grew up with things like spiders in the pool.

"We have a spider called a funnel-web, which can exist in a bubble.

"It can exist in a bubble, in the pool. And you have to look in the pool before you swim to make sure that ... I mean this isn't frequent, but I know to check the pool."
