Nigella Lawson to testify at trial of former assistants

London - Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson could face questions about alleged drug use when she appears as a witness at the fraud trial of her former personal assistants.

Lawson is due to testify as a prosecution witness on Wednesday against Italian sisters Elisabetta and Francesca Grillo. The pair are accused of living the high life by using credit cards loaned to them by Lawson and her ex-husband Charles Saatchi.

The case has shone a light on the breakdown of the 10-year marriage between Lawson and art collector Saatchi. They divorced in July after he was photographed clutching Lawson's throat at a London restaurant.

Defence lawyers have claimed Lawson used illegal drugs, citing an e-mail from Saatchi , but he told the court last week that he had never seen Lawson taking drugs.
