P. Diddy in VMA after-party drunken brawl

Los Angeles - P. Diddy was involved in a heated argument at his MTV Video Music Awards after-party on Sunday night.

The rapper - real name Sean Combs - co-hosted a star-studded bash with Jay Z at hot spot PH-D in New York City following the ceremony, however, the night turned sour when he got into a drunken verbal altercation with fellow rapper J. Cole which descended into a shoving match.

A source told the New York Post newspaper: "J. Cole was saying inappropriate things to Sean Combs and his girlfriend, Cassie. Sean immediately pounced. Some pushing and shoving happened. No punches were thrown, but it was a visible disturbance. A few bottles splashed to the floor and some party goers were knocked over, falling on top of Renee Graziano from Mob Wives."

P. Diddy "untroubled" by it all

According to another eyewitness, the fracas occurred at around 03:00 - after both parties had enjoyed several drinks.

Diddy, 43, quickly put the incident behind him as he appeared "untroubled" just moments later when he took to the microphone and wished girlfriend Cassie, 27, a happy birthday.

Other stars who attended the lavish event included Jay Z's wife Beyonce, Rihanna, Leonardo DiCaprio and Justin Timberlake and his wife Jessica Biel.

The Diamonds hitmaker was reportedly greeted with a kiss on the cheek by rapper Drake, indicating that they are back on good terms following a messy love triangle with Chris Brown, which resulted in an infamous club brawl last year.

Meanwhile, Jessica was spotted dancing up a storm with her husband's former 'N Sync bandmates Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick.

The 1990s boy band reunited on stage for the first time in a decade at the MTV Video Music Awards during Justin's show-stopping performance.
