Berlin - Hefty French actor Gerard Depardieu said on Tuesday that he had shed 20kg after a crash diet during which he said he ate nothing for 10 days.
"I just drank water and I lost 20kg," he told journalists as he presented a new sparkling wine from his vineyards. The actor had reportedly weighed about 150kg.
"One should not treat one's body like a dustbin," he added.
The French actor, 62, famed for his roles in Cyrano de Bergerac and The Man in the Iron Mask, among others, was in Berlin for the premiere of his new film Small World, set to be released in Germany on December 16.
Depardieu, one of the world's most popular French film stars, hit the headlines in September amid a public bust-up with compatriot Juliette Binoche who he said was an actress who had "absolutely nothing."
Binoche said she had been baffled by the outburst.
