Princess Beatrice auctions hat for charity

Los Angeles - Princess Beatrice's wildly twisted royal wedding hat will apparently serve some other purpose than amusement for the global audience of Britain's recent royal wedding.

On Wednesday, Beatrice's mother, Sarah Ferguson, told US talkshow host Oprah Winfrey that her daughter will put it up for auction, with the proceeds going to UNICEF, the UN agency that works on behalf of the world's children.

Ferguson, or Fergie as she is called was not invited to last month's marriage of her nephew Prince William to Kate Middleton. But her and Prince Andrew’s daughters - Beatrice and Eugenie - attended in high style.

Outrageous

True to tradition, the British elite turned up at the wedding in one of the most outrageous collection of hats ever seen.

But the hat worn by Beatrice took the cake: The design by Irish fashion stylist Philipp Treacy made her look like "a spider was eating her head," as one observer put it.

Others say Beatrice looked like a moose with antlers, an alien invader and a pretzel.

The hat has been photoshopped onto other images around the world. There's even a Facebook page dedicated to "Princess Beatrice's ridiculous Royal Wedding hat."
