Rapper Birdman implicated in Lil Wayne's bus shooting

Los Angeles - A man accused of shooting Lil Wayne's tour bus claims Birdman should be held responsible.

The 32-year-old rapper and his entourage - including fellow Young Money artists Lil Twist and Hood - were leaving Compound nightclub in Atlanta in April when their vehicle was attacked, with Jimmy Winfrey subsequently arrested.

However, in new court documents, Winfrey - a former tour manager for Young Thug - claims he shouldn't be singled out for the crime, though he doesn't go so far as to directly say the music mogul ordered the shooting.

According to TMZ, he stated: "[Birdman's] financial dispute with [Lil Wayne] is what ultimately led to the shooting."

"[Birdman] should be held liable as a party to the crime."

Birdman denies any involvement in the incident.

Wayne and Birdman are currently in the midst of a $51m legal battle.

The Lollipop hitmaker took action against his former mentor and Cash Money Records in a bid to get out of their contract and take his Young Money imprint with him.

The lawsuit claims Birdman breached Wayne's contract by withholding several million dollars he was owed by Cash Money due to his delayed album Tha Carter 5.

As well as seeking damages and artistic freedom, Wayne also wants to be declared joint copyright holder of all Young Money recordings.
