Reese Witherspoon's career fell apart after her Oscar win

Los Angeles - Reese Witherspoon admits she had ''a tough year'' after winning an Oscar.

The 38-year-old actress, who announced her separation from Ryan Phillippe in October 2006 after eight years of marriage, believes her career fell apart after she won the prestigious Best Actress prize in 2005 because she was focused on ''just trying to feel better'' after their split.

Discussing life after her success at the Oscars, the blonde beauty told CBS' 60 Minutes: ''Phew, that was a tough year that followed. I got divorced the next year and I spent a few years just trying to feel better.''

The Wild star, who has daughter Ava, 15, and son Deacon, 11, with Ryan, and son Tennessee,2, with her current husband Jim Toth, was devastated when her name was included in an article about ''washed up'' celebrities in 2012, alongside Tom Hanks and Mel Gibson.

She said: ''I thought I was reading a profile on another actor, and somewhere at the end it said, you know, the people who are washed up, and at the end it included me, Tom Hanks, Mel Gibson. It really hurt my feelings, really hurt my feelings.''

Reese previously admitted she spent a lot of time crying on the floor after her split from Ryan.

She said: ''I lay on my kitchen floor and cried a lot and I think at a certain point you just wake up and you're like 'OK, I don't want to feel like this anymore.' And you figure your own shit out. But no one's going to figure it out for you.

''You can't apologise for being a human being. We all feel weak sometimes, sad and distraught, lost.''

The star took to instagram after the interview:
