Cape Town – After 16 years of "a great drought in the love region", director and film maker Regardt van den Bergh has found love again.

He and actress Clara Joubert have been dating "for a while" van den Bergh said from his home in Somerset-West.

The pair met when Joubert auditioned for a role.

Joubert is remembered for her role as Hes on 80's Afrikaans sitcom Orkney Snork Nie. She now lives in Jeffreys Bay.

"Yes we have a sort of commuting thing going. One weekend I am there, and the next she comes to me."

We're taking it step by step. We're not kids anymore. There is still no mention of a wedding, but we are in a steady relationship."

'More fun'

59-year-old Van den Berg is regarded as one of the most prominent figures in the South African film industry.

He is currently preparing to direct a new drama series for KykNET.

"Al those years alone in my house were quite lonely. Luckily I am comfortable in my own skin. But now it's much more fun," he teases.

Van den Bergh is the son of two great film figures in South Africa, the late Gert and Dulsie van den Bergh.
