Rihanna on Chris: I lost my best friend

Los Angeles - Rihanna lost her best friend when she split from Chris Brown.

In a frank interview with chat show host Oprah Winfrey for her Next Chapter show, the We Found Love singer opened up for the first time about how she felt when she dumped the R&B star after he assaulted her in February 2009.

In a preview of the programme, she said: "It was embarrassing. It was humiliating. I lost my best friend."

She added: "I was resentful. I held a grudge. I was dark. I was super duper afraid of the pedestal that comes with fame."

Rekindled their romance

In the exclusive interview with Rihanna - which was conducted in her native Barbados - she ends up breaking down in tears and she also defends her decision to collaborate with her former love interest on her song Birthday Cake, in spite of the fact he was convicted of his brutal attack on her.

Rihanna and Chris have been rumoured to have rekindled their romance in recent months and they reportedly met up on several dates while they were both in the South of France.

The interview will be aired on 19 August in the US.
