Rupert Murdoch: Scientologists are evil

2012-07-02 11:40
Los Angeles - Media mogul Rupert Murdoch weighed in on the Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes divorce story on Sunday, saying he thinks Scientologists are "creepy" and possibly even evil.

The News Corporation chief urged his Twitter followers to watch the story, which broke on Friday when Holmes announced she was filing from divorce from Hollywood A-lister Cruise, a prominent member of the Church of Scientology.

"Watch Katie Holmes and Scientology story develop. Something creepy, maybe even evil, about these people," Murdoch said on his Twitter page.

The fairytale Hollywood couple's split was revealed when Holmes' publicist announced that the actress had filed for divorce after five years of marriage, ending an unexpected love story dogged by tabloid rumours.

A spokesperson for Cruise said the Mission Impossible star was "deeply saddened" by the news, fueling reports that his wife's announcement had taken him by surprise.

Forcing Suri into Scientology?

Speculation about why Holmes wanted out has included suggestions she was concerned that Cruise was forcing their six-year-old daughter Suri deeper into the Church of Scientology.

TMZ has reported that Holmes is seeking sole custody of Suri.

Citing unnamed sources, it said she feared "that Tom would drag Suri deep into the church."

"We're told the couple had been arguing over Suri - that she's now of the age where Scientology becomes a significant part of her life," it said.

Sticking to his story

Murdoch's Scientology comment generated a surge of Twitter traffic, prompting another tweet: "Since Scientology tweet hundreds of attacks. Expect they will increase and get worse and maybe threatening.

"Still stick to my story," he added.

There was no immediate response to a request for comment from the Church of Scientology, or from publicists for Cruise or Holmes.

A short time after his Scientology tweet, Murdoch was asked his views on Mormonism - in the spotlight currently as Mormon Mitt Romney takes on President Barack Obama for the White House.

"Mormonism a mystery to me, but Mormons certainly not evil," the News Corp tycoon replied.

I've got a theory, they are all gay, Travolta, Cruise, and I met 2 in SA who were also gay. You get that guy that has to belong to something, being gay, the bible don't want you, the Quran don’t want you, so let’s be scientologists.

I think Scientology is a great religion. No different from any of the other religious scams invented over the centuries to exercise power over people in order to make it easy to extract money from them. Ron Hubbard looked around him and saw the that the space for more Christian cults was looking a bit crowded and the competition for wallets and purses very fierce so he just went out and invented his own.

Who in their right mind follows a so called religion started by a Science Fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard. L. Ron Hubbard did not have money and thought the best way to make money was to start a religion. It is an offshoot to a method of psychotherapy he concocted from various sources which he named "Dianetics". Dianetics is a form of regression therapy. It was then further expanded to appear more like a religion in order to enjoy tax benefits. He named it "Scientology". They believe Xenu is an Alien being that was supposed to have gathered up all the overpopulation in this sector of the galaxy, brought them to Earth and then exterminated them. The souls of these murdered people are then supposed to infest the body of everyone. They are called "body thetans". These 'body thetans' are what you audit and try get rid off through the 'auditing' sessions. Scientology is a confused concoction of crackpot, dangerously applied psychotherapy, oversimplified, idiotic and inapplicable rules and ideas and science-fiction drivel that is presented to its members (at the "advanced" levels) as profound spiritual truth.

@Jack "Scientology is a confused concoction of crackpot, dangerously applied psychotherapy, oversimplified, idiotic and inapplicable rules and ideas and science-fiction drivel that is presented to its members (at the "advanced" levels) as profound spiritual truth." Well said. Same words can be equally applied to Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and any one of thousands of religions.

Trust a athiest to say Scientology is a religion. There is only one GOD so there can be only one religion and that is TRUE Christianity that our martyrs died for. THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELLS YOU. YOU WILL KNOW THE POWER OF GOD ON THE JUDGEMENT DAY. MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOUR SOUL!

When she married him he was a Scientologist. What did she think? I don't feel sorry for her - she went in with her eyes wide open. She probably had her own agenda and that did not work out. Took you 5 years Katie to see the light.... you're a bit slow girl :)
