Russell Brand denies hitting homeless man

Los Angeles - Russell Brand has denied running over a homeless man's cart.

The comedian allegedly crashed his Range Rover into a trolley filled with a homeless man's possessions in Los Angeles last Thursday.

Although Russell was spotted helping the man pick his things up off the road, he denies hitting the trolley with his vehicle and insists video footage will prove he is innocent.

When asked if he ran over the cart, Russell told TMZ: "Of course not."

Compassion for homeless people

He continued: "I didn't hit him. Look at the footage. I was driving along, there were some things [in the road], so I helped pick them up."

Russell joked: "I do run people over quite a bit. Two or three times a week I like to do a running over."

The 37-year-old actor is known for his compassion for homeless people and earlier this month he stopped for a chat with a man on the street after a yoga class, and offered him a bottle of water.

In September, Russell - who was previously married to Katy Perry - took a group of vagrants out to breakfast at Hollywood's Newsroom Cafe.
