Ryan Reynolds posts touching tribute to his late father

Los Angeles - Ryan Reynolds' father has died.

The 39-year-old actor - who has 10-month-old daughter James with wife Blake Lively - is mourning the passing of 74-year-old James C. Reynolds, and has appealed for fans to donate to Michael J. Fox's website, which aids Parkinson's disease research.

Alongside a link to the webpage and a picture of his dad, he tweeted: "RIP Pops. James C. Reynolds. 1941-2015."t

The Green Lantern star has previously spoken of his father's battle with the disease and how it brought their family together.

He said: "My father comes from a pretty prideful generation. And he doesn't really talk about it too much. But, he's maybe said it once or twice out loud.

"I think one of the interesting things about having a family member who's diagnosed with this particular disease, who isn't really engaging in an active fight against it, it kind of galvanised everybody else to seek resources. And for us, in a strange way, it's really kind of brought us together."

Last year, the Deadpool actor wrote a piece for Time magazine, in which he described his dad as "the toughest man alive: a former cop, former boxer and full-time landmine."

He added: "He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and in return, you were expected to do what he said, often before he said it.

"In a word, he was scary. Not because he was sadistic or physically abusive. He was scary because he was one of those people with an energetic 'weight' to him."
