Salma Hayek's brother involved in fatal car crash

Los Angeles - Salma Hayek's brother has been involved in a fatal car crash.

Sami Hayek, 40, was driving a Ford GT sports car on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, on Sunday, when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a Toyota pickup truck.

Sami was rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical centre after suffering broken ribs and a gash to the head during the accident, while his unidentified male passenger died at the scene.

Officers are still trying to get in touch with the victim's relatives and will not release his name until they have been contacted, although it is believed he was a 43-year-old resident of Mexico, according to reports.

Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck, Alvin Javier Gomez, 20, was also taken to hospital after complaining of body pain and suffering from a broken foot.

Law enforcement officers believe Sami lost control of his car after swerving to avoid an on-coming vehicle, but the investigation is still on-going and no arrests have been made.

Salma, 47, is yet to comment on the incident.
