Sarah Jessica Parker joins Twitter and sends out first tweet

New York - Sarah Jessica Parker has joined Twitter.

The Sex and the City star posted her first tweet on the micro-blogging site on Tuesday and already has more than 439 814 followers.

In her first message, the mother-of-three promoted her new AOL documentary series about the New York City Ballet - which she executive produced.

Using the Twitter handle @SJP, she posted: "Very 1st tweet. Proud to share my new series city.ballet. on AOL On. @NYCballet dancers = extraordinary!"

The 47-year-old actress isn't only keeping her tweets generalised, as she's also opted for an anonymous avatar picture, of an extreme close-up shot of one of her eyes.

Fans said it was "better late than never" she has finally jumped on Twitter bandwagon and many speculated as to whether Sarah will post about her most famous role as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City.

Sarah, who is married to actor Matthew Broderick, is appearing in a production of The Commons of Pensacola, which will officially open on November 21 in New York.
