Simon Cowell gives Louis Tomlinson his top parenting tips

Los Angeles - Simon Cowell has given Louis Tomlinson parenting advice.

The 54-year-old music mogul has given the One Direction singer, 23, a run down of what to expect as a new father and has offered his top tips for when he welcomes his first child into the world with stylist Briana Jungwirth later this year.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Simon said: "I just said 'enjoy it'. If I had been his age and someone had said you're going to have a baby, I'm not sure how I would have coped with it but he did call me and I said 'when you've embraced it you'll be amazed how much you are going to love it and it will change your life for the better'. And that's it."

The X Factor judge welcomed his first child Eric into the world with his partner Lauren Silverman 20 months ago and has admitted he went through a stage where he thought the tiny tot "hated" him because he wouldn't respond to him.

He explained: "When he was about five or six months old I was like.... I just don't know what to do! Because he wasn't reacting to me and I thought maybe he hates me.

"And they said, 'No, take your time', because once he gets a bit older. And then suddenly one day they are talking, listening, responding, communicating, whole different ball game, and also they sort of become a bit like you, which I don't know is a good thing or a bad thing!"
