Los Angeles - Sinead O'Connor has been hospitalised for depression.

The Nothing Compares 2 u singer - who claims she tried to kill herself while in Los Angeles earlier this month - has checked into an unnamed Irish hospital where she hopes her recovery will be quick.

She tweeted: "Gonna be off radar for few weeks. But will be back. Worry not. :)

"I be grand in few weeks. was right decision to call hospital. They fab. Good team. I be me again in 2 weeks they say.

"Dont want anyone worrying. Should only worry if a depressed person DOESNT go hospital. all will be well. Just little time. : ) (sic)."

Desperate plea

Sinead made a desperate plea for psychiatric help on Twitter last week claiming she was in "danger" if she didn't receive medicine immediately for her psychiatric problems but admitted she didn't want to go to hospital for treatment.

She tweeted: "i realise i will be in trouble 4 doing this but.. ireland is a VERY hard place to find help in. So having tried other ways 1st im asking does any1 know a psychiatrist in dublin or wicklow who could urgently see me today please? im really un-well... and in danger.

"im ill and i desperately need to get back on meds today. am in serious danger. please e mail me at iamwonderful@me.com if u know or are a psychiatrist who can help me today (sic)."

Sinead - who has four children from previous relationships - recently called time on her marriage to fourth husband Barry Herridge for a second time following their December 8th wedding in Las Vegas.
