Tara Reid's marriage isn't legal

Los Angeles - Tara Reid claims her marriage isn't legal.

The 35-year-old actress - who tied the knot with Bulgarian financier Zack Kehayov in a surprise ceremony in August - claimed her nuptials, which took place on the Greek island of Santorini, are not officially binding.

Asked if she could win US TV show The Newlywed Game, by gossip website TMZ, she said: "We would lose... we were never really married, it was never legal."

Although the American Pie star didn't explain why her marriage is not legal, the United States Embassy states ceremonies carried out in Greece must be registered with the Vital Statistics Office within 40 days in order for her home country to officially recognise the union.

They state: "Marriages of American citizens in Greece are not registered at the Embassy, but instead at the Vital Statistics Office (Lixiarhio) of the city where performed.

"This applies to all marriages, whether civil or religious, and must be done within 40 days following the ceremony. After 40 days marriages can only be registered with the payment of revenue stamps. Marriages that are not registered have no legal validity."

It wasn't planned

Tara - who married on the same day Zack proposed to her after three months of dating - has previously admitted she never planned to tie the knot when she did.

She said: "You know when they say, 'You just know'? That was it for me. I knew. It was love. The wedding wasn't planned. We didn't go on holiday to get married.

"But, when he proposed, it felt right and we just thought, 'Let's do it now'. We both wore white clothes and just did it on the beach. It was so romantic."
