Tom Cruise 'leaving Scientology'

2012-09-27 11:31
Cape Town - A new report suggests that the Church of Scientology may be losing its most famous ambassador, Tom Cruise, who is reportedly suffering a crisis of faith.

The new issue of Star magazine reveals new details in Tom's life that's led to speculation the movie star, who recently went through a quickie divorce from his third wife Katie Holmes, is having a crisis of faith.

"Tom hasn't admitted that he's definitely leaving Scientology for good," an insider told the magazine. "But he's distanced himself from those in the church and has been hanging out with good friends who aren't part of the religion."

'Scientology hasn't served him'

Tom, 50, is reportedly reconsidering his affiliation with the controversial church after his beliefs came under fire and his public image took a huge knock during his most recent divorce, and the impact it would have on Suri, his six-year-old daughter with Katie.

"Tom's been leaning on friends who have different perspectives, getting advice on moving on from Katie as well as on everything he's been going through with Scientology," the insider said.

"He's finally seeing that being such an advocate for Scientology hasn't served him as well as he'd hoped - he's gone through three divorces, and his public perception has sunk to an all-time low."

Scientology was also blamed for the breakdown of his marriage to second wife Nicole Kidman, as well as ex-girlfriend Penélope Cruz. Tom was introduced to Scientology by his first wife Mimi Rogers.

Earlier this month, Vanity Fair published a shocking exposé which claimed that the Church of Scientology held top-secret auditions to help find Tom Cruise a new wife after his divorce from Nicole.

hmm. more like the scientotties have given him the boot - he has hardly brought the "faith" and good press. John Travolta next on the list to be shifted - his life choices don't quite match the "church's" expectations.

next in line to be shifted of shafted?

When a Scientologist has an orgasm do they say: “ Oh my Sciences “

      crackston.jack - 2012-09-28 00:34

The world wouldn't have learnt about Scientology if it wasn't for him. Those mindless zombies need their brains re-implanted like certain individuals in our country.

      piet.hannibol - 2012-09-28 10:29

Charles, yet the other day you were begging people to stick with their faiths. You really are a blind twit aren't you?

      kalman.dittrich - 2012-09-28 10:50

Sarah you speak as if you are an advocate to the Scientology nonsense, I will assure you with my heart and soul it is nothing less than dangerous and misleading. Our beliefs around the world stem mainly divided between muslim, christian and Jewish ancestory ALL stemmed from a man called Abraham, The father of all nations. Scientology is a man made bunch of drivel, I worry for you and your kids if you find solace in that junk. The only reasonable explanation is tax evasion which I can understand but selling Dianetics or Scientology you guys are fools. Better to be a devil worshiper which would be so sad than to advocate a sweet sounding philosophy disguised as knowledge yet which has zero value since it is all based on lies.

Scientology was invented by a well known fiction writer....

      press.enter.12 - 2012-10-16 12:54

The Bible was invented by a bronze age writer with a chisel a socio-political agenda and a belief that the earth is flat and the sun spins around it . . .

Lol, there are people following their religions for a life time and never wake up.

      ingi.raikes - 2012-09-28 14:13

I know a couple who are scientologists. He is a very astute business man but because of all this nonsense he is not popular. He talks such rubbish and people laugh about them behind their backs. He has given the Church millions of Rand and the more they demand that he be 'audited', the more cash they take from him!!! And when his wife had a hysterectomy, she hid at her mothers home so that nobody knew about it because it's against the 'Churches' principles! Isn't that a true case of double standards??? What twats!!?

  • ziggamann.shepard - 2012-09-27 13:02

he and travolta should come out as gay

  • jan.plank.35 - 2012-09-27 13:07

If a member leaves this "church", they leave all their money behind. FACT.

  • Mark - 2012-09-27 13:12

Scientology Church was founded by L Ron Hubbard, he also wrote science fiction stories. Makes you think, doesn't it?

      JManAtheoi - 2012-09-28 10:44

Basically how all religions came to exist.

  • johan.vanderberg.583 - 2012-09-27 14:33

Please Tom, you are a brilliant actor. Scientology is not good for you. I sincerely hope he investigates and learns the truth about that cult.

      pieter.griessel - 2012-09-28 09:35

Scientology is what made him ! Maybe you should investigate and learn!

      piet.hannibol - 2012-09-28 12:01

Pieter, It was actually Tom's talent for acting which took him to the top. Another twit!

      GrootWitHaai - 2012-09-28 12:33

All religions started as a meme. The world is full of people who believe in these stories of corrupt religion.

      nick.sailer - 2012-09-28 05:12

      I understand what you meme.

  • holden.gardnercaulfield - 2012-09-28 01:09

But will Scientology leave Tom Cruise?

  • nick.sailer - 2012-09-28 05:10

Hurray. One doesn't easily leave this dreadful cult but I think that in the case of Cruise he might be left alone due to his fame. I'm sure the break will give him the perspective to accept that the best religion is in fact no religion at all. Possibly in time he may choose to reveal some facts about this secretive cult, that it has in fact nothing to do with science and a great deal to do with brutal brainwashing and enslavement to a riduculous system of arbitrary beliefs. Finally, this may make him a far nicer and kinder person. People make mistakes and when a person realises their folly, and turns their life around, they should congratulated.

  • marc.rule - 2012-09-28 07:37

    SO WHAT!

  • johnny.potatoes61 - 2012-09-28 08:24

  • paul.kershaw.18 - 2012-09-28 13:40

As an ex-member of a cult myself, I must comment here that what Tom Cruise must be going through will be extreme to say the least and I'm thankful he has decided that his love for his child is worth more than anything else to him. Good for him.

I believe there is something that one could probably call a fanaticism gene. Millions of Muslims go about their business daily without blowing themselves or other people up. The same with Christians, not all are far right, extremist fundamentalist terrorists. There are pockets of people with this gene that congregate together and then become dangerous and may become involved in terrorist activities. There are some atheists congregating on News24 that remind me of that. If you had been born into a Muslim household in Iran I have no doubt that you would have become suicide bombers. I responded to a letter posted on the Scientology topic and some character called Merven Halo attacked me for being a Jesus freak, without me even using the words 'Jesus' or 'religion'. He has no idea what my beliefs or non-beliefs are. In fact, the only people more fascinated by Jesus than Christians, are these atheists. I have atheist friends who let others' beliefs be. They would never have become suicide bombers or far right fundie terros. They don't have the gene. Check yourselves for this tendency. You are beginning to scare the rest of us.

      geoffrey.drew1 - 2012-09-29 06:59

When did you do a course in genetics to know tis for a fact?..

      lara.vanrooyen.1 - 2012-09-29 08:34

I said 'believe'. Or do you see only what you like to see? But if we carry on this conversation you will prove me right.

  • anthony.kay.965 - 2012-09-29 11:19

Why people believe these charlatans and don't look for the truth in the bible? Is so easy and clear to see that the followers of Hubbard and Joseph Smith and of Charles Russell, are deceived by them and blinded. They must understand that Jesus, is the only way to heaven. Either you believe in him or not, the fact remains the same. there is no other way. If you want sugarcoated lies, and hell, run away, but if you want heaven, call him to come to your life. As simple as that.

      wordis.word.1 - 2012-09-29 13:21

You have evidently been brainwashed much more thoroughly than ol' Tom here.

  • beth.beckering - 2012-10-05 19:28

God the Father, Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spitit is the one true source to heaven. Some people are blinded and God has given them a delusion so they will not accept them unless the trinity intervenes.

  • gunter.raffel - 2012-10-18 00:38

All this gossip - that's all it is evidently ads to the box office supersrar's popularity. All really successful people have four things in common that determins the degree of success: 1. Attention, 2. Critics, 3. Some haters.4 Admiration. Believe it or not, but that is how this thing works out. You are welcome to check this out for yoursel.

The only people more occupied with the existence of god are atheists. I say just drop all of this nonsense - both for and against.
