Tom Cruise visits Suri in New York

New York - Tom Cruise has seen his daughter for the first time since he reached a divorce settlement with Katie Holmes.

The 50-year-old actor flew to New York City to see six-year-old Suri on Wednesday and was seen carrying her into a Manhattan hotel as she clutched a white teddy bear.

An onlooker said: "Tom looked really happy."

The visit comes 10 days after Tom and Katie agreed the legal terms of their split on July 7 and the Hollywood heartthrob had been "dying to see" his little girl.

Shooting on the actor's latest movie Oblivion wrapped in California on Sunday and he made sure he was in New York to see his child the first opportunity he got.

First meeting since mid-June

It is believed Tom hadn't seen Suri in person since mid-June although the pair had spoken frequently on the phone and via video chat over the internet during that time.

Katie split from Tom in June after five years of marriage, leaving the couple's Los Angeles home and moving to New York City with Suri.

Although full details of the divorce settlement were kept confidential, it is believed the 33-year-old actress was given primary custody of Suri with Tom being granted regular visitation rights.

Despite the split, the former couple are determined to make their meetings when they collect and pick up Suri as amicable as possible for her sake.

A source said: "They both know they are going to have to make decisions together regarding Suri for many, many years. And they know she loves both her parents."
