South African comedian Trevor Noah, who's been striking up fame overseas, took some time to do his famous Nelson Mandela impersonation on the Australian news network ABC News.
Website, www.deadline.com, reported that the sitcom would be "inspired by Noah's comedy and life".
The half-hour show will be produced by Overbrook entertainment - a company co-owned by Hollywood celebrity couple Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith.
One tweet reacting to the news was from Geoffrey York who said: "Let's just hope Will Smith doesn't turn Trevor Noah into "The Fresh Prince of Soweto"."
Thulani Siyo, tweeted his support for Noah by declaring: "So Trevor Noah has landed himself a sitcom in the states? Now that's ayoba!!!"
