Kile Glover - the son of the Tameka Raymond and her former partner Ryan Glover - died from heart failure last Saturday.
This comes two weeks after being left brain dead following a jet ski accident, and his tearful mother took to Twitter to praise her son and thank people for their prayers.
She wrote: "I appreciate the hundreds, perhaps thousands of prayers. I'm so grateful to you guys. Kile was the most fun, creative, sweet, respectful boy."
Tameka also asked people not to send flowers but to instead make donations to a fund she has set up in her son's name.
Kile's passing will not be in vain
She added: "Many have asked where to send flowers, but in Lieu of flowers. we ask that you make a contribution to the Kile Glover Fund @ Bank of America.
"Our goal to to increase water safety - thru implementing laws, policies & education. Kiles passing will not be in vain, we will see to this (sic)."
Kile's service was held at Wieuca Road Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia before he was buried in a cemetery nearby.
Kile was struck in the head during a jet ski collision while he was riding on an inner tube on Lake Lanier in Georgia, and he was put on life support after doctors declared him brain dead.
His family made the heartbreaking decision to turn off the machine on Saturday.
