Was the death of Drew Barrymore's half-sister an accident?

Los Angeles - Drew Barrymore's half-brother doesn't believe their half-sister committed suicide.

Jessica Barrymore was found dead in her car by a neighbour on Tuesday with pills reportedly scattered around her but John Barrymore - who shared a father, late actor John Drew Barrymore, with his half-siblings - thinks she took an accidental overdose, rather than deliberately taking her own life, comparing the tragedy to the death of Heath Ledger, who overdosed on prescription medication in 2008.

He told the New York Daily News newspaper: "It looks like it was a drug misadventure. Mixing alcohol and pills. I seriously doubt she took her own life.

"There were some empty vodka bottles, a couple bags of meth and a variety of pills in the car. My guess is that it was the booze and pills, like with Heath Ledger.

"She visited her mom the day before, and her mom is almost gone. It was hard for her to see her. I doubt she tried to kill herself, though...I predict it will be that - mixing booze and pills and taking too many.

"I'm going to miss Jessica. She was a kindred spirit. She knew laughing is what saves us all."

John admitted the half-siblings barely knew one another and had met together only once to scatter their father's ashes.

Following the news of Jessica's death, 39-year-old Drew - who has two daughters, Olive, 22 months, and Frankie, three months, with her husband, Will Kopelman - paid tribute to her older half-sibling.

She said in a statement: "Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible and I'm so incredibly sorry for their loss."
