Aaron Carter pens emotional letter about his sexuality

Cape Town – Aaron Carter has shared an emotional statement regarding his sexuality.

The 29-year-old on Saturday night shared that he is no longer ashamed of hiding his true identity.

"There's something I'd like to say that I feel is important for myself and my identity that has been weighing on my chest for nearly half of my life. This doesn't bring me shame, just a weight and burden I have held onto for a long time that I would like lifted off me."

Aaron continued: "I grew up in this entertainment industry at a very young age and when I was around 13-years-old I started to find boys and girls attractive."

The singer, who is also the brother of former Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter, added that he thought about what he was feeling for years, but only had his "first experience with a male" who he was attracted to when he was 17 years old.

Aaron’s statement comes shortly after news broke that he and his girlfriend, Madison Parker ended their relationship.

Carter’s rep confirmed to People magazine: "Aaron and Madison love each other and respect one another dearly. It was a mutual decision and Aaron’s personal statement released speaks for itself. Now back to the music."

This comes after Aaron had a run-in with the law in July. Carter was arrested on DUI and drug charges.
