Another health scare lands Lena Dunham in hospital

Los Angeles - Lena Dunham has been rushed to hospital.

The 29-year-old Girls creator will undergo surgery after suffering an "ovarian cyst rupture" on Saturday.

Her representative told PEOPLE: "Lena Dunham has been very public with her personal bouts with endometriosis. This morning, she suffered from an ovarian cyst rupture and has been taken to the hospital. Lena will be undergoing surgery at an undisclosed hospital. We thank you for your understanding and hope that Lena's privacy will be respected."

Last month Lena warned fans she would not be promoting the latest season of Girls after experiencing a painful flare-up of endometriosis - a condition which causes tissue to grow outside of the uterus and can lead to infertility - and was advised to rest by her doctors.

She wrote in a letter on Facebook: "Hey Beloved Pals, I just wanted to let you know that, while I am so excited for Girls to return on Feb 21, I won't be out and about doing press for the new season.

"As many of you know I have endometriosis, a chronic condition that affects approximately 1 in 10 women's reproductive health.

"I am currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it's time to rest.

"Wishing you all health & happiness, in whatever form suits you. Back soon, xx Lena (sic)."

Lena also took to her Instagram account on Saturday and posted about natural skin products that women can use who suffer from endometriosis.

I'll never apologize for promoting a smart, ethical brand owned by a woman I love that's doing only good things for awareness and for the environment. That being said, if @goop is outside of your price range this is another all-natural skincare line that's great for women with hormonal issues and sensitivities and it retails at a lower price point. A frustrating fact about this modern life is that chemical-filled products are way cheaper than cruelty-free natural ones. Wish the beauty industry was held more accountable and that we could guarantee safe products to women no matter their income. Let's add it to the list of goals, k?
