Christina Applegate reveals she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed

Cape Town – Christina Applegate had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed to avoid getting cancer. She shared her story on Today.

The 45-year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and underwent a double mastectomy. Since discovering she has the BRCA1 gene mutation, which predisposes her to developing cancer, Applegate has taken every precaution she can to prevent herself from another cancer diagnosis.

In an interview with Today, Applegate reveals she has “taken control of everything” and recently underwent another surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes.

“I had my ovaries and [fallopian] tubes removed. My cousin passed away from ovarian cancer in 2008. I could prevent that. That’s how I’ve taken control of everything.”

She continues that it’s just another thing she did so she doesn’t have to worry.

One thing that does concern her however, is the fact that her 6-year-old daughter, Sadie may have the BRCA1 gene.

“The chances that my daughter is BRCA positive are very high. I look at her and feed her the cleanest foods. I try to keep her stress levels down. I’m doing everything I can on my end knowing that in 20 years, she’ll have to start getting tested.”

While she remains focused on keeping her daughter happy and healthy, Christina also spends a lot of her time on her foundation, Right Action for Women. The foundation advocates healthy living and provides breast screenings for those with an increased risk of breast cancer but cannot afford to be tested.
