Gabrielle Union opens up about heartbreaking infertility struggles

Cape Town – Gabrielle has opened up about her long battle of trying to have a baby with husband, Dwayne Wade, including suffering multiple miscarriages.

In her new memoir, We’re Going To Need More Wine, the Being Mary Jane star gets candid about her life, including her infertility struggles.

In an exclusive excerpt from the book, published in People magazine, Gabrielle reveals she has been struggling with failed IVF treatments for three years.

“I have had eight or nine miscarriages... For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle,” she wrote in her book.

The 44-year-old adds that being in the public eye has just made her struggle worse.

“For so many women, and not just women in the spotlight, people feel very entitled to know, ‘Do you want kids?

“A lot of people, especially people that have fertility issues, just say ‘no’ because that’s a lot easier than being honest about whatever is actually going on. People mean so well, but they have no idea the harm or frustration it can cause.”

But despite all odds, Union assures that she and Dwayne have not lost hope and are willing to do “anything to meet the child we’ve both dreamed of.”

Gabrielle is the proud stepmom of three boys – Dwayne’s 16-year-old nephew Dahveon Morris as well as two sons 15-year-old Zaire, and 10-year-old Zion from a previous marriage.
