Here's the real reason Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds split

Los Angeles - Scarlett Johansson has hinted her marriage to Ryan Reynolds ended because they were too "competitive".

The 31-year-old actress - who married her second husband Romain Dauriac - revealed the issues with being in a relationship with another actor and appeared to hint at why her first marriage broke down.

Although she did not mention Ryan, her husband from 2008 to 2011, by name, Scarlett told Cosmopolitan magazine: "There has to be a real understanding of how you share your time, especially when two people's careers are going at the same rate. Or even if one person is more successful than the other, that also proves challenging. There may be a competitive thing."

Scarlett also spoke about another previous toxic relationship which pushed her to "breaking point."

While she is now happily married to Romain, with whom she has 19-month-old daughter Rose, she admitted she'll never forget the difficult romance she had with someone who was always "unavailable" a few years ago.

She said: "Long, long ago, I had someone in my life who was forever unavailable ... but, like, so attractively unavailable. You have to get to your breaking point.

"Rock bottom is the moment when you're like, 'I've lost myself. Why am I standing outside this bar at 01:30 in the morning texting while my friends are inside? Or taking a taxi to see him at some ungodly hour? This isn't me.'

"That is the moment you've gotta cut it off. Otherwise, it will keep coming back, suck your blood."
