Cape Town – Who would’ve thought that Queen Elizabeth aka Britain’s longest reigning monarch likes a drink...or four to get through the day?
Yes, that’s right, according to the queen’s cousin Margaret Rhodes, HM’s alcohol intake never changes.
So, what exactly does it take to drink like a queen?
Well, in a recently resurfaced article on The Independent, Margaret says the queen likes to start her mid-morning off with a little gin and Dubonnet on the rocks finished with a slice of lemon.
Lunch time is wine o’clock, followed by a dry Martini in the afternoon.
And to end the day, a sparkling glass of champagne.
As per UK alcohol unit guidelines, weekly alcohol consumption should be kept at 14 units per week on a regular basis.
The queen’s daily intake puts her at 6 units per day which would make her a ‘binge drinker’ by government standards but who is really even counting.
And as for Prince Philip, he likes to keep it simple with beer.
Cheers to that!
