Cape Town – While doing press for his latest film, I Am Michael, James Franco revealed that the election of Donald Trump as US president has hit him hard.
Franco, who is a big Hillary Clinton supporter, told The Daily Beast that he’s not been coping well with Trump’s appointment as president at all.
He told Daily Beast reporter Marlow Stern, that he has "spiralled into a depression" since the election results were released at the end of last year.
He added that since then he’s been questioning everything that he is and how he’s been doing things.
"It’s a been a rough few months," he said.
Franco’s film I am Michael is a 2015 American biographical drama based on Benoit Denizet-Lewis' New York Times Magazine article My Ex-Gay Friend.Franco plays Michael Glatze, a gay activist who renounces homosexuality and becomes a Christian pastor.
The hunky actor’s own sexuality has made many a headline but he insists his private life has nothing to do with anyone else.
In an interview with New York Magazine in 2016, the 38-year-old said he is baffled as to why people even care about his sexuality.
He told the magazine: "There is a bit of overfocusing on my sexuality... and so the first question is why do they care? Well, because I'm a celebrity, so I guess they care who I'm having sex with. But if your definition of gay and straight is who I sleep with, then I guess you could say I'm a gay cock tease.
"It's where my allegiance lies, where my sensibilities lie, how I define myself. Yeah, I'm a little gay, and there's a gay James."
