Cape Town - The couple was spotted posing for a picture in an elevator, three years after the infamous elevator incident at the Met Gala.

Jay-Z and Beyoncé took time out to celebrate the rap legend’s 48th birthday at the Angelika Film Centre and Café in New York City, according to E! Online.

And the birthday boy was particularly generous, shouting to the paparazzi: “Hurry up! Come get it!”

This purposeful move sent a clear message to their critics – in the wake of the scandal and rumours that followed, the king and queen of hip hop are doing just fine.

The chic couple were dressed to the nines, with Beyoncé (36) sporting a sheer Versace dress while Jay looked dapper in a maroon suit.

Three years after the rapper and Beyoncé’s sister, Solange, fought in the elevator in 2014, with the whole bizarre incident caught on camera.

Reasons behind the conflict have never been confirmed, however it has been widely speculated that it was related to infidelity rumours.

Earlier this week, Jay put the rumours to bed, revealing he had been unfaithful to his wife and the mother of his three kids, Blue Ivy (5), Sir and Rumi (6 months).

During a podcast interview in August, Jay-Z assured fans that he and Solange have a solid relationship.

"She's like my sister. I will protect her. That's my sister, not my sister-in-law. My sister. Period”.

He even made reference to the scandal on his 4:44 album on the song Kill Jay-Z. In one part, he raps: "You egged Solange on / Knowin' all along, all you had to say you was wrong." Fans also believe that he appears to take responsibility for starting the conflict in this lyric, reported Harper’s Bazaar.
