Cape Town - At 87, it seems Katherine Jackson is more than ready to retire her grandmotherly duties.

The Jackson matriarch has reportedly started the process to legally resign as the guardian of her late son Michael’s youngest child, Blanket.

In court documents obtained by E! News, Katherine states she is "no longer needed to fulfil the duties" that were needed in 2012 when she and grandson TJ Jackson (39) were appointed co-guardians of Michael’s three kids – Prince Jackson, Paris Jackson and Blanket

With Prince and Paris now over 18 – and leading their own lives – it’s just Blanket (real name Prince Michael Jackson II) that’s left requiring supervision.

However Katherine feels it’s now time to hand over his care to TJ – whose father is Tito Jackson, her third oldest child and of course, Michael’s brother.

"Katherine is no longer needed to fulfil the duties that were necessary when joint-guardians were appointed," court documents state.

"Given her own age [87] and the fact that [Blanket] is now 15, Katherine feels that TJ is able to assume all necessary responsibilities of the guardianship for the Minor Child."

According to MailOnline, nearly nonagenarian Katherine has been seen in a wheelchair during her most recent public outings, which are becoming few and far between.

Documents also state that TJ, a singer who himself has four children with his wife, Frances, wants to remain the sole guardian of Michael's youngest child.

The family are now waiting for a judge to make a decision regarding the request filing.

After Michael Jackson died of acute propofol intoxication in June 2009, Katherine became the sole guardian of his three kids, with TJ becoming a co-guardian a few years later.

At a charity event earlier this year, Prince (20) told ABC News that his cousin has been a source of support for him. “When my dad died, the thought of being in the foster system crossed my mind, but I was fortunate to have an incredible grandmother and cousin, T.J., to fall back on.”

Paris (19) has often spoken of her great love for her grandmother and last year had a flower tattoo done on her wrist with Chinese lettering below saying, “Love you, G-Ma.”
