Cape Town – Kerry Washington is Allure magazine’s November cover star, hoping her take on society's beauty standards will inspire people to keep it natural.
While highlighting her reasons for keeping it au naturel in her interview, the Scandal (The Fixer) star opted for loose cornrows without extensions or a weave in the photo shoot - by photographer director, Sharif Hamza.

When discussing society’s beauty standards, Kerry opened up about why she doesn’t necessarily conform.
One example is her hair, which she prefers to keep natural.
“I like to wear my natural texture, especially now because I have children and I want them to know that their hair is perfect as it is. They don’t have to change it or straighten it. They can, but they don’t have to.”

With the mag interview taking place a day after Charlottesville, the mom-of-two also opened up about how she exposes herself to things happening in the world.
Kerry told Allure’s Judith Newman: “I have to dip in and dip out, because it suffocates me. Like, I become unable to function. So it’s a tricky balance between staying aware and also staying connected to a sense of hope and productivity and showing up for life.”
