Leonardo DiCaprio hits back at Trump after Paris climate withdrawal

Cape Town – Leonardo DiCaprio has hit back following Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement.

In a series of tweets the actor and environmentalist spoke out against Trump’s decision urging his followers to “take action.”

In one tweet he wrote: “Today, our planet suffered. It’s more important than ever to take action.” In another Leo tagged organisations for followers to support.

Leonardo also shared his concerns in a statement on Facebook saying: “Our future on this planet is now more at risk than ever before. For Americans and those in the world community looking for strong leadership on climate issues, this action is deeply discouraging.”

DiCaprio added: “We must be determined to solve climate change, and to challenge those leaders who do not believe in scientific facts or empirical truths.”

From the White House Rose Garden on Thursday, Trump revealed his plans for the United States to leave the Paris climate change accord.

The long awaited announcement received backlash not only from Leo but other public figures as well.

South African-born businessman Elon Musk announced his resignation from Trump’s advisory council, saying: “Am departing presidential councils. Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world. (sic)”
