Cape Town – Meghan Markle is Vanity Fair magazine’s October cover star and of course, she’s opening up about dating British royal Prince Harry.

Rumours of the couple's romance spread in October 2016, after the couple met through mutual friends in July that year.

As expected, the Suits actress instantly became the face every paparazzo wanted a picture of. In her interview with VF’s Sam Kashner, Meghan reveals how she has coped with the flooding popularity.

“It has its challenges, and it comes in waves - some days it can feel more challenging than others.”

“And right out of the gate it was surprising the way things changed. But I still have this support system all around me, and, of course, my boyfriend’s support,” she added.

Shortly after news of their relationship broke, the media’s thirst for Meghan Markle prompted her British royal beau to take matters into his family’s hands by releasing an official statement, pleading for the media to back off.

Of course, that is not where it ends.

Markle was born and raised in Los Angeles by her two parents - Thomas Markle, a white lighting director in Hollywood and Doria Ragland, a black social worker – who divorced when she was two but were never absent from her life.

Being bi-racial has put Meghan’s relationship with Prince Harry under harsh criticism and tabloids can be really hurtful, but the 36-year-old has learned to take it all with a pinch of salt.

Of other people’s opinion on her relationship, Meghan told Sam: “I can tell you that at the end of the day I think it’s really simple. We’re two people who are really happy and in love.”

She went on to reveal that they had been secretly dating for six months before news of their relationship broke, adding that nothing personal changed after it became public.

“We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception.

“Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”

Keeping mum on the future prospect of their relationship, Meghan finished off explaining: “We’re a couple. We’re in love.

“I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours.”

Meghan added that she loves a “great love story,” and by the looks of things she’s got it.
