Cape Town – Lainie Kazan was arrested on Sunday for allegedly stealing groceries.
According to TMZ, the My Big Fat Greek Wedding actress loaded her shopping trolley with $180 worth of groceries at a Gelson's in the San Fernando Valley around 16:00 on Christmas Eve.
Kazan reportedly packed the groceries into reusable bags and left the store without paying.
TMZ further reports the 77-year-old was stopped by a staff member, the police were called and she was handcuffed and taken to the local police station.
A police spokesperson confirmed to E! News that Kazan was cited for shoplifting and released without bail.
Kazan’s excuse for leaving without paying was that she reportedly had no money on her.
Kazan is yet to comment on the incident.
