Cape Town – E! News confirmed on Wednesday that Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris have broken up.
The couple dated for almost a year and a half.
A source told E! that the breakup took place last week after the "romance just wasn’t there anymore".
The source added that Calvin, real name Adam Wiles, ended the relationship but that the split was handled in a mature fashion.
Taylor has notoriously written songs about her ex-relationships that have gone on to win her numerous awards.
Some of the rumoured songs written about her breakups include Forever & Always (written about Joe Jonas), Back to December (Taylor Lautner), We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (Jake Gyllenhaal), Dear John (John Mayer), Out of the Woods and Style (both about Harry Styles).
During an interview with USA Today in 2012 Taylor said she liked writing songs about her exes to "torment them".
She said: "I made a song that I knew would absolutely drive him crazy when he heard it on the radio. Not only would it hopefully be played a lot, so that he'd have to hear it, but it's the opposite of the kind of music that he was trying to make me feel inferior to. I did that because that's fun."
