Time magazine reveals its 100 Most Influential People

Cape Town - Time Magazine has revealed its annual list of Most Influential People for 2016 with six Time 100 covers.

The covers were shot by photographer Ben Hassett.

The list is divided into 5 categories namely Pioneers, Titans, Artists, Leaders and Icons and highlights anyone and everyone who has in some way exemplified a breakthrough.

"These are people who have their own lesson to teach. We can debate those lessons; we don’t have to endorse them or agree with them," says deputy managing editor Radhika Jones.

The list includes the likes of Charlize Theron, Nicki Minaj, Adele, Mark Zuckerburg and his wife Pricilla Chan, Priyanka Chopra and many more.

One couple who didn’t make this year’s list was Kanye and Kim Kardashian West.

The rapper and his reality TV wife featured on the list for 2015, while Kim’s step-parent Caitlyn Jenner features on this year’s list.

How the Time 100 are picked

The people Time spotlights range from the globally famous to the pretty much the unknown.

In a statement on Time magazine’s website the decision making process is described as a diverse one.

"There are world leaders and local activists, artists and athletes, scientists, moguls and a number of people who are running for President of the United States."

"One way or another they each embody a breakthrough in some way. Whether they broke the rules, broke the record, broke the silence or broke the boundaries, their goal was to reveal what we’re all capable of."
