WATCH: Chris Hemsworth almost died in the Himalayas!

Los Angeles - Chris Hemsworth nearly died in the Himalayas.

The Thor actor accompanied his wife Elsa Pataky, 39, when she was filming a travel show in the famous mountain range but revealed that his altitude sickness was so bad it could have killed him.

He told chat show host Jimmy Kimmel: "We got higher and higher and we ended up at about 4 000 meters above sea level. You acclimate every couple of days. You plant yourself in one place and your body adjusts to that lack of oxygen and so on, and you go higher and higher.

"They take one look at me and they're like, 'Get him off the mountain'. And they start injecting me with all sort of whatever's going to adjust my oxygen intake.

"Apparently, the oxygen in my lungs, the next stage was oxygen in my brain and then - goodnight. We wouldn't be sitting here. Everyone else adjusted, acclimated, but for some reason I couldn't handle it."

Before being diagnosed with altitude sickness, Chris, 32, revealed that he was acting completely irrationally.

He said: "I slowly honestly started to kind of lose my mind ... Just completely irrational, overly sensitive to the most trivial sort of silly things."
