Los Angeles – Yes, it is confirmed that Liam Payne and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, formerly known as Cheryl Cole, are dating and it hasn’t been easy for the pair. Since rumours about their romance started, Cheryl became the subject of some shocking online abuse. Here’s all you need to know.
Since the news of their relationship was made public, Cheryl has received a torrent of abuse from 1D fans and has also been subjected to vulgar insults on Twitter and Instagram, with one social media user even branding her a "repulsive whore".
Even more hate was showered down upon her when Liam appeared to confirm they were a couple by changing his profile picture on Instagram to a selfie of them leaning in close to one another. And fans are seemingly also shocked at the couple's 10-year age gap.
Despite the haters, the brunette beauty held her own and, very subtly, hit back by changing her biography on Instagram. And in the "about me" section of her account, she declared: "When people hate on you, it's because you've got something they want."
However, it seems the 32-year-old singer had second thoughts as she has again changed the message. It now reads: "Cheryl..All love Good vibes only."
She also continued to post stunning pictures of her recent antics to her 2.2 million Instagram followers, including photos taken at the Brit Awards last Wednesday - which Liam also attended.
Liam has since deleted the photo of him and Cheryl and pop duo lying down together in what looks like a bed or a sofa. In the black and white image, Cheryl is seen gesturing a peace sign, while Liam stares into the camera lens. Fans speculated whether this means that their relationship is over or not.
The two also spent a romantic holiday together in the Maldives recently, according to reports.
A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "With Liam it's just completely relaxed. They've come from the same place and totally understand each other and the pressures each of them has, so there is no need to put on a front.
'Of course they have known each other for a long time, and always got on very well, but it was only in December that they began talking of getting together.
"It's early days and who knows exactly what will happen, but her family are happy for her and she's enjoying herself."
