Randall Radio

The meanie Idols judge has finally got his own soapbox radio show on Heart 104.9fm in Cape Town.

Randall Abrahams has joined Heart, and his arrival was announced through a practical joke, being April Fool's Day 'n all. If you tuned into the station this morning, you would have heard Randall on air instead of the regular breakfast jock Phat Joe. No, Joe hasn't been fired again; it was just a publicity prank.

Randall will however make his debut on the station on Saturday April 3 at 9am with Point of View, or POV as he calls it. The three-hour show aims to use a lot of user-generated content to fuel its popularity through all social media and digital options, as well as expose the listeners to new things. So basically, you get to run the show. I imagine there are a lot of people who want to give Randall a piece of their mind.

While Randall looked uncomfortable in his expensive but rather plain Ben Sherman shirt and designer titanium spectacle frames, he was comfortable that his listeners will get a different Randall from the one they know on Idols. Randall has a long history in radio from a programming side, so he probably knows what sells. He promises that he's not there to tell you what to listen to, read, watch, etc. We'll see how long he can keep that tongue inside his cheeks.

So if you're hoping to bump into Randall at the Waterfront, sorry for you. The show will be broadcast from Johannesburg on a weekly basis, and when Randall is in town, the station will most definitely put on their best fanfare and let you know. Anyone else find it odd that he expects to relate to a Capetonian audience from Jo-burg? Just sayin'...

Saturday's premiere of POV will include interviews with Joey Rasdien, Zolani from Freshlyground, Blk Jks and you'll meet Randall's young co-host, Angela Guastella, whom he can't stop raving about. Because Randall is all about "developing young talent", as he puts it.

Yes, he'll still be cutting those singers down to size on Idols.

Will you be tuning in to hear Randall's rants?
