Sasha Lee and Jason both win Idols

The recount of the Idols vote is complete and it has been confirmed that Jason received more votes than Sasha Lee. Jason received 1.3 million votes, while Sasha Lee trailed behind him with 1.1 million votes. However, M-Net announced that both Jason and Sasha Lee are winners and the prizes will be doubled up.

South Africans voted overwhelmingly to determine the winner of Idols Season V. For the first time the voting public had 100% say in the outcome of the competition and on Sunday evening, 03 May, the final show of the fifth season of Idols was broadcast live on M-Net between 17:00 and 19:00 announcing Sasha Lee Davids as the winner.

However, M-Net's post show analysis revealed that a significant amount of SMS votes were received after the cut-off time of 18:05 on Sunday evening, due to possible external system latency.

Results show that Jason Hartman was in the lead in the past three weeks but Sasha Lee took the lead during the final show on Sunday. By 4pm on Sunday afternoon she was leading by 57.1% and by 5:45 pm she was ahead with 53.8% of the votes. 

The final results from Sunday's show saw Sasha Lee leading with 52.77% and Jason trailing behind her with 47.23% of the votes.
