The Dark Knight (2008)
Set to premier in the United States and the United Kingdom in July 2008, Ledger stars in the role of The Joker in the sequel to Batman Begins. Ledger put a great amount of effort into perfecting the sociopathic and psychopathic mass-murdering clown. Watch the trailer.

I'm Not There (2007)
As one of six different actors, Ledger plays a character based on Bob Dylan during one of the stages in the legendary singer-songwriter's life. Ledger's character is Robbie Clark, an actor, and represents the period after Dylan's divorce.

Candy (2006)
In a story of a love triangle between a boy, a girl and a drug, Ledger plays Dan - a charming aspiring poet and intravenous heroin user.

Not one of his best films, Ledger plays Jacob Grimm in a movie loosely based on the famed folk tale writers the Grimm Brothers.

Lords Of Dogtown (2005)
He played Skip Engblom, the owner of a surf/skater shop in Santa Monica. The film is based on the real rise of skateboarding started by Stacy Peralta, Tony Alva and Jay Adams.

The Order (2003)
A terrible film in which Heath played a discontented and disillusioned priest who left the US to investigate the suspicious death of another priest. It’s a religious thriller - enough said.

Ned Kelly (2003)
This one earned him an AFI Award nomination for Best Lead Actor. The film is based on the life of Australian outlaw and bushranger, Ned Kelly, who founded a gang that robbed a bank and hijacked an entire town in three days.

The Four Feathers (2002)
Nothing to write home about. Heath played a young British officer in Sudan in 1884 who resigned just before battle and was given four feathers as a symbol of his fearfulness. However, his resignation was not due to cowardice but part of a bigger undercover plan.

Monster's Ball (2001)
An Oscar winning film, although Heath did not have a lead role. He played Sonny Grotowski, the son of a racist prison guard in a story that tackles racism.

A Knight's Tale (2001)
Set in late medieval Europe, Heath played a peasant squire, eager to rise above his low status. After his master dies, he decides to take on a new identity as a knight, something forbidden to those not of noble birth.

The Patriot (2000)
Ledger plays Gabriel Martin, the son of a veteran of the French and Indian War. He and his family are drawn into the American Revolutionary War when his family is threatened.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
The film that placed him on the walls of teenagers across the world, Ledger's plays the hunky Patrick Verona in a teen comedy loosely based on Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew".
