To help you pick a winner, here is our date night guide to the top 10.

PS I Love You

Keep the tissues close for this charming and romantic tearjerker. Gerry (Gerard Butler) has a terminal illness and when he dies, his wife Holly (Hilary Swank) is devastated at losing her soul mate. Starting on her 30th birthday, Holly receives the first in a series of letters that Gerry wrote to her before his death to help her deal with her loss.

The Vow

A sweet love story between two beautiful people. Paige (Rachel McAdams) and Leo (Channing Tatum) have been happily married for years. Disaster strikes when Paige loses her memory following a car crash… and Leo has to woo her all over again. Based on a true story.

Phantom of the Opera

Based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic musical, this movie adaption features Gerard Butler as the Phantom. A disfigured genius, he haunts the catacombs underneath the Paris Opera until he falls in love with Christine (Emmy Rossum) and strives to create the opera’s next big star. Not just for music fans.

Leap Year

The lovely Amy Adams is Anna who, after four years of dating, decides to propose to her boyfriend (Adam Scott) on 29 February in this cute rom-com. According to Irish tradition, this is the only day a woman should propose to her man. As can be expected, things don’t quite go according to plan and she ends up having to enlist the help of the very attractive Declan (Matthew Goode) to get her across Ireland to find her boyfriend in time.

Letters to Juliet

In the city of Verona, the home of Romeo and Juliet, hundreds of people pen letters asking for love advice and usually receive an answer from one of the ‘secretaries of Juliet’. When Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) finds a letter from 1957, she responds, and a search for long-lost love begins.

Intolerable Cruelty

Miles Massey (George Clooney) is a hotshot divorce attorney who ignores his own advice when he marries the beautiful Marylin Rexroth (Catherine Zeta-Jones). This cynical romance from the Coen Brothers sees a hilarious battle begin when Marylin shows her true motives. A quirky Hollywood comedy with a star-studded cast.

Kate & Leopold

Every woman’s dream comes true in this sappy romance: a duke (Hugh Jackman) from another century travels through time and falls in love with a successful executive (Meg Ryan). When the two unlikely strangers meet in modern-day New York, an old-fashioned romance is kindled.

Chocolat

If there’s one thing most women love it’s chocolate… and Johnny Depp. In this beautiful and magical tale, Vianne (Juliet Binoche) opens a chocolate shop in a small French town… and mysterious and romantic things begin to happen. When a gorgeous gypsy (Johnny Depp) shows up in town, Vianne’s own romantic story begins to unfold.

The Young Victoria

Emily Blunt is fabulous as the young and inexperienced Queen of England. While she faces the daunting task of winning the nation’s hearts, her own heart is stolen by the dashing Prince Albert (Rupert Friend). A lovely biographical interpretation of England’s longest-serving monarchs early years.

When Harry Met Sally

This timeless classic sees best friends Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan) slowly discover their true feelings for one another. But will they be able to recognise that they’re meant for each other?
