5 movies we’re looking forward to watching at the Silwerskerm Festival!

Cape Town - The fourth annual kykNET Silwerskerm Festival is set to showcase the best in Afrikaans films with special full-length film premiers, short films, discussion panels and a glamorous award ceremony.

This year the festival spreads its wings even wider with a new category for documentary films, 15 new short films produced by kykNET and collaboration with Cape Town's World Design Capital initiative.

The festival will take place from 27 August at the Bay Hotel in Camps Bay.

We’re excited and geared up to see some great South African films.

These are the 5 films we’re looking forward to seeing!

Leading Lady

Directed and written by Henk Pretorius and Tina Kruger Leading Lady tells the story of an aspiring actress Jodi Rutherford who persuades a South African farmer Kobus Willemse to prepare her for a role in a major film as an Afrikaans war heroine. In return she will arrange the annual concert on the farm.

Die Spook Van Uniondale

This is the Uniondale ghost story like you’ve never heard it before. Stefan and his wife are on their way to visit his parents when he encounters car trouble. He is stranded for the weekend in the small town of Willowmore. Strange characters, that are almost too good to be true surround him, he is in for a life-altering experience in the heart of the Klein Karoo. It stars Tanya van Graan and Ivan Zimmerman.


Inspired by the book of the same title by Jaco Jacobs. Suurlemoen tells the story of two teen boys who get into big trouble at school. To save themselves their teacher suggests they start a band and compete in a Battle of the Bands competition!

Hollywood in my Huis

In this coming of age drama Jana a wallflower watches Charlize Theron’s Academy Award win. Inspired she sets out to secure her own red carpet moment at the matric dance. But she doesn’t have a dress, no partner and only 16 days left before the farewell!

Hard To Get

Produced by Helena Spring and Junaid Ahmed and directed by Zee Ntuli this action packed crime thriller is set to take viewers on a roller-coaster ride. Skiets a beautiful stranger walks into the tavern at a small rural township. TK sets out to charm her but she turns him down. What develops is a love triangle that sets off a series of events.
