Cape Town – An extended trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s latest sci-fi thriller was recently released drastically increasing our excitement over the locally filmed Hollywood blockbuster.
In Chappie, Blomkamp taps into the humanity lurking within artificial intelligence.
Chappie follows the story of a robot who is abducted by a pair of criminals played by Yolandi Vi$$er and Ninja from Die Antwoord.
Sharlto Copley stars as the robot Chappie who is programmed to think and feel and have original ideas.
Created by a young scientist played by Dev Patel, Chappie is set to become the poster child for the evolution of artificial intelligence.
But not everyone is ready for the evolution. Hugh Jackman plays an anti-AI agent who is out to destroy the robot.
While watching the trailer we couldn’t help but spot the following:
1) Hugh’s Boksburg mullet:
2) Hugh’s two-tone shirt:
3) The SA flag on Chappie’s armour (also seen in Elysium):
4) The Jozi skyline:
5) The SA coppers eating vetkoek and koeksisters:
