Adele confirmed for new Bond theme

London - Adele has recorded the theme for the new James Bond film Skyfall.

The singer has provided the official theme song for the latest instalment of the British spy thriller series, her first new music since multi-milllion selling second album 21 was released in January 2011.

Adele hinted she was to record the track last year and even said during an interview: "I'm going back in the studio in November, fingers crossed. Well, this is actually a theme, that I've got to do. Wow, that's really giving something away."

New theme song to be called Skyfall

Rumours were fuelled when she was subsequently spotted at Abbey Road studios with producer Paul Epworth, at the same time as the soundtrack was being produced.

Adele's song for the movie will also be called Skyfall and she follows in the foorsteps of many other famous musicians by recording a Bond theme, including Sir Paul McCartney, Dame Shirley Bassey, Duran Duran, Tina Turner, Tom Jones and Madonna.

The late Amy Winehouse was to submit a track for last film Quantum of Solace but recording sessions were abandoned as she was unfit to record, and the title song was performed by Jack White and Alicia Keys.

Skyfall will see Daniel Craig reprise his role as James Bond alongside Naomie Harris, Dame Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem.

The film will be released on 30 November in South Africa and will also mark the 50th anniversary of the James Bond franchise.
