Applause as Idris Elba is nominated for Mandela movie

Beverly Hills – Idris Elba has been nominated for a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Nelson Mandela in the film Nelson Mandela: A Long Walk To Freedom.

Elba's nomination, for the film which had its London premiere on the day the South African anti-apartheid hero died, drew applause from the Beverly Hills hotel media and Hollywood watcher audience as the nominees were read out.

The 41-year-old actor will be up against fellow actors Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave), Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips), Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) and Robert Redford (All Is Lost) in the category "Best Actor in a motion picture, drama". 

The 71st annual Golden Globe Awards will be presented on 12 January at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
