Avengers changes shoot date

Los Angeles - Joss Whedon's The Avengers will begin shooting in April 2011.

The Marvel Studios project - which will feature Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson and was originally scheduled to lens in February - has already entered pre-production and will undergo principal photography from April until September in New Mexico.

It will be the biggest feature film to have been shot in the southern US state to date, Variety reports.

New York and Michigan will also be used to shoot the action adventure movie.

Joss has previously claimed there is an excellent "energy" between all of the film's big name-stars because they are all "enjoying" the script.

He said: "The energy is extraordinary. This is an extremely collaborative, supportive intelligent cast; they're very sweet.

"They're not challenging each other, they're just enjoying each other and ready to get into it. And that's an exciting atmosphere.

"I even said, 'Don't do it if we can't make the deal with these actors.' I desperately wanted this exact crew for the movie."

The Avengers is due for release in 2012.
